Currently residing on the windswept coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, Valerie Leduc pursued her passion for portrait photography at the reputed College Marsan in Montreal, Quebec. Leduc’s portraits are widely known in Nova Scotia for their stark contrast between femininity and strength. The effect reaches a vulnerability of spirit that shines through to the viewer as wisdom, curiosity, and power. Her work has been seen in both online and hard copy magazines; the most notable of which are Vogue, GQ, and Glamour UK, and she has been shown in a number of solo art exhibits. Recent travels to Italy and Central America have renewed Leduc’s passion for exploring culture and continuing to open her mind to new visions of our common humanity. “I love redefining beauty in my photos. Finding the confidence to reveal ourselves in a different light.”
Looking past the surface, then emerge a truth about the subject in this moment in time. The challenge is to see beyond the story one present to capture its unique self, a piece of a soul. Redefining beauty by guiding the subject to its own revelation. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully and find those pieces of authenticity in the world around them, to discover connection in unusual places.
